Bank robbers hijack armored van; inside job eyed

Bank robbers struck again in Metro Manila Wednesday, this time driving off with the armored van of a bank in Makati City, with police suspecting an inside job. Radio DZRH reported that police now want to question the security guards, driver and teller of Security Bank, after finding that they left the van doors open and unattended. The incident took place at 1:15 p.m., when the bank's "rented" armored van and a backup van delivered cash to its branch along Herrera Street in Legaspi Village in Makati City. While the van was parked and the security guards escorted the teller into the bank branch office, an Isuzu Trooper (RTW-991) and a gray Toyota Vios (XVX-546) arrived. Occupants of the two vehicles alighted and took off with the van itself. Police investigators said they want the van's security guards and teller to explain why they left the van unguarded. The suspects sped off on the van (WRK-671), prompting the startled guards in the backup van (VCD-432) to give chase. As of 4:30 p.m., the DZRH report said the teller and security officers could not declare how much was taken. Only last Tuesday, robbers armed with high-powered firearms robbed an armored van in Manila's Binondo district, wounding two people. - GMANews.TV
